Vino Volo has arrived in St. Louis, with its newest location at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL), which opened on Saturday, December 19. Travelers in search of a great glass of wine and a tasty bite before their flight can now visit Vino Volo in Terminal 2 near Gate E18.

A renowned St. Louis artist and collector has curated the latest exhibition at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport that puts a spin on the definition of art. John Foster’s Accidental Mysteries, on display in the Terminal 1 Lambert Gallery, is a showcase of natural and handmade objects that may or may not have been intended to be art. But through Foster’s artist/designer/collector lens, you get a whole new artistic and curious exhibition that rises above the ordinary.
“The pieces in this show range from objects created from the result of an individual’s artistic efforts, and includes found objects that have been transformed by time, or the elements,” said Foster. “The intent is to look at the very meaning of art, and challenge preconceived ideas. Think of this exhibition as a ‘cabinet of curiosities.’”
What will the audience see? A painted suitcase. A pair of transformed baby shoes. A set of found, decayed alarm clocks. Art carved birds. A melted phone, and wood carvings that go beyond the ordinary.
John Foster, a 1976 graduate of Washington University with his MFA degree, has been a longtime collector of self-taught art, vernacular photography and extraordinary found objects. His collection of anonymous, found snapshots has toured the country for nearly 10 years and has been featured in Harper’s Magazine, Newsweek Online and many others. John is currently a featured writer for the international online magazine, Design Observer. In 2005, Art & Antiques magazine named John one of the “Top 100 Collectors” in the United States. John currently serves on the Board of Trustees for SPACES (http://www.spacesarchives.org), an organization dedicated to saving and preserving arts and cultural environments; and is on the St. Louis Advisory Board of “Alarm Will Sound,” a 20-member chamber orchestra that focuses on recordings and performances of contemporary music. John was a co-founder of ENVISION Folk Art of Missouri and for 10 years edited their publication. He is also a writer and has been a guest speaker at the American Folk Art Museum in NYC, The Peabody-Essex Museum, art conferences and universities throughout the country.
Accidental Mysteries runs through April 17, 2016. The Lambert Gallery, a major component of the Lambert Art & Culture Program, features local and regional arts organizations and is supported by the St. Louis Regional Arts Council. Previous exhibitors include the The Sheldon Galleries, Missouri Fiber Artists, Photography Hall of Fame & Museum, Missouri State Museum, Foundry Art Centre, Craft Alliance and the Griot Museum of Black History.
Southwest Airlines announces service to Oakland, CA, Cleveland, OH and Portland, OR.
Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL) will soon have a second option for travelers to reach the San Francisco Bay area with Southwest Airlines’ announcement of new daily nonstop service to Oakland, CA (OAK) beginning June 5, 2016. Oakland is a new destination for the St. Louis region. Southwest is also adding nonstop service to Cleveland, OH (CLE) and Portland, OR (PDX) that same day.
“The announcement by Southwest Airlines is great news for our region, and will open up new destinations during the peak travel season this upcoming summer,” said Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “We’ve focused the last year on getting more frequency and destinations to the West Coast, and the announcement is a payoff to our efforts.”
In the last year, Lambert has gained seven new destinations for the region; four of which are on Southwest Airlines. In November Southwest inaugurated its daily nonstop route to Orange County, CA (SNA). Service between STL and Little Rock, AR (LIT) begins January 6, 2016 with two nonstop flights daily. Daily nonstop service to Pittsburg, PA (PIT) begins in March, and two daily nonstop flights each to Des Moines, IA (DSM) and Wichita, KS (ICT) debut in April.
When the June 5th flights begin, Southwest Airlines will serve 43 destinations out of Lambert, and total 103 daily departures. Tickets are on sale now at www.Southwest.com. Southwest Airlines is the largest carrier at STL, and operates exclusively out of Terminal 2.
Lambert-St. Louis International Airport’s drive to improve energy efficiency across all networks, buildings and power systems is paying off in a big way. Ameren Missouri presented a ceremonial check to Lambert for $490,642 at the December meeting of the St. Louis Airport Commission. The check represents nearly 30 projects that earned cash incentives over the last three years through Ameren Missouri’s BizSavers® Program.
The cash incentives are just one payback. The on-going energy savings for the Airport are another. Ameren Missouri estimates the most recent projects have saved 8.1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity equal to powering 575 homes for a year. Lambert is now saving more than $40,000 per month in avoided energy costs.
Lambert implemented a facility-wide Environmental Management System (EMS) in 2012 which included an environmental and sustainable commitment to include the integration of economic, social and environmental aspects into new projects and existing operations. Energy efficiency and conservation efforts at the Airport are guided by key strategies and goals in the City of St. Louis Sustainability Plan (2013) that targets lower greenhouse emissions for the region.
The Airport’s project list includes small to higher profile improvements, including the installation of LED lamps in terminal garages, high mast lighting on airline ramp areas, new LED lighting in numerous work areas and office spaces and the installation of occupancy sensors throughout the complex. The lighting projects were chosen based on end of life-cycle evaluations as well as the return on investment calculations for upgrading to more energy efficient products.
The Airport continues to work with Ameren Missouri in identify more energy savings. The Airport is working on an in-depth audit by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) to analyze the energy usage at multiple airport facilities.
Lambert-St. Louis International Airport will see a surge in holiday traffic beginning Friday, November 20 as the Thanksgiving holiday travel rush begins. The Airport typically sees an increase of 15-20 percent in passenger traffic during the 10-day Thanksgiving air travel period, which extends through Monday, November 30.
The biggest single travel day of the holiday weekend for Lambert is projected to be the Sunday following Thanksgiving (November 29), which typically surpasses 20,000 departing passengers on that day. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 25, is projected to be the second busiest day in this travel period. Load factors on both of those days are projected to above 90 percent for most of the airlines operating at Lambert. Many flights will be fully booked. The two lightest travel days during the week are Thanksgiving Day, November 26, and Friday, November 27.

Lambert-St. Louis International welcomes the innovative works of St. Louis artist Daniel Raedeke, who has introduced a burst of color and fanciful forms into the Terminal 1 Ticketing Lounge with works from his sculpture series “Always Almost New.”
Raedeke has three works on display, each hand fabricated from digital designs out of polystyrene and high gloss enamel paint. The result is a spirited and colorful collection of characters, with names suggesting animated toys, and design-inspired style: “Woggy,” “PhasO,” and “Landscapy.”
Daniel Raedeke's work explores the connections between contemporary art and commercial culture, offering commentary and critique on each. Currently living and working in St. Louis, he has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally and in St. Louis. “Always Almost New" premiered as a solo exhibition at Laumeier Sculpture Park in 2004. In his work, Raedeke combines his remarkable range of skills in painting, design, animation and fabrication, by painstakingly creating digitally inspired, handmade sculptures and paintings.
The exhibit, which runs through April of 2016, is showcased at Lambert with support from Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis. The Terminal 1 Ticketing Lounge exhibit space is part of the Lambert Art and Culture Program which supports art works and cultural experiences throughout Lambert Airport. Lambert-St. Louis International is kicking off a new year of charter vacation travel with a season that will offer more flights and one of the newest of planes for trips to Mexico, Costa Rica and the Caribbean.
In partnership with Apple Vacations, Lambert is hosting a familiarization tour on November 2 for hundreds of travel agents and their clients to see a Boeing 737-800 from XTRA Airways, which will operate solely from St. Louis to five charter destinations beginning December 2015. XTRA Airways will operate flights on its 168-seat 737-800 to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Liberia, Costa Rica, and Puerto Vallarta and Huatulco, Mexico. Departure days and duration of service varies for each destination through December of 2016.

Southwest Airlines is expanding its operations in St. Louis with the announcement of new non-stop service between Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL) and Pittsburgh, PA (PIT), Des Moines, IA (DSM) and Wichita, KS (ICT) in the spring of 2016. In all, Southwest is adding eight daily departures to its late spring schedule across six destinations.
Daily non-stop service to Pittsburgh begins March 10, 2016 and will replace service currently being offered by American Airlines (previously, US Air) until December 2015.
Beginning April 12, 2016 Southwest will begin service to two new markets for St. Louis, with two daily flights each to Des Moines and Wichita. That same day, Southwest will begin year-round service to Seattle, WA (SEA), upgraded from seasonal service in the summer in past years. The airline is also adding a second daily flight to Tulsa, OK (TUL) as well as a second daily flight to Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN (MSP). Tickets to all these destinations are available now on Southwest.com.

The new flights are in addition to two other new destinations announced earlier this year. Southwest will begin a daily non-stop flight between STL and John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Los Angeles, CA on November 22. In early January, Southwest will begin daily service between STL and Little Rock, AR (LIT).
When the April 12 flights begin, Southwest will serve 39 destinations from St. Louis for a total of 97 daily departures. Lambert will be the 12th busiest airport in the Southwest system.
(Oct. 22, 2015 - St. Louis) Lambert-St. Louis International Airport saw a strong month of passenger traffic in September with an increase in passenger enplanements of 4.1 percent over the same time period a year ago (521,851 vs 510,709). The boost helped increase 2015’s third quarter enplanements by 3.1 percent. Year-to-date through September, Lambert has boarded 4.75 million passengers compared to 4.67 million a year ago for a 1.7 percent increase.

Just prior to the third quarter, Lambert added new non-stop destinations to Austin, TX (Southwest), Portland, OR (Alaska) and Jackson, TN (Air Choice One). Additional service to Seattle, WA on Alaska Airlines also carried through the summer months in 2015.
On November 22, Southwest will launch daily Boeing 737 service to John Wayne Airport, Orange County (SNA), which will provide a second airport option in the Los Angeles market. In early January, Southwest will launch two daily non-stops to Little Rock, AR (LIT).
Southwest Airlines is the largest carrier at Lambert, with a 53 percent market share through September 2015. American Airlines is second in market share in St. Louis with 20 percent. Delta is third with 13 percent. Lambert served 12.4 million passengers in 2014 with more than 250 daily departures to 67 non-stop destinations during the peak travel season.
Lambert-St. Louis International Airport has unveiled its second airport trading card in the North American Airports Collectors Series, which now has more than 60 airports in the program. Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) kicked off the second year of the program at the 2015 ACI-NA Annual Conference in Long Beach, California this week.
The airport trading card series offers aviation enthusiasts a new collectible opportunity to commemorate their travels through U.S. and Canadian airports. Lambert led the campaign and was part of the original launch of the series which featured trading cards from 17 airports in September 2014. Lambert’s second card features an iconic image of its new copper roof on Terminal 1, which was installed in 2014.
“The trading cards have been a fantastic way to connect with our travelers, our region and the aviation community to share our unique story,” said Lambert Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge.
The trading cards feature the most recognizable images from some of busiest airports in the world to smaller regional airports in North America. Each card offers geographic information, facts, figures and historical information unique to each airport. The trading cards are free. Lambert’s 2nd trading card is now available at the information booth in Terminal 1 bag claim.
