"Flagship Detroit" DC-3 on display while a newer generation AA plane takes off at Lambert
Aug. 22, 2008 - “Flagship Detroit”
The historic "Flagship Detroit" landed at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport Wednesday for an American Airlines employee appreciation event. The DC-3 was delivered to American Airlines in 1937 and was part of an 84-plane fleet that operated from 1936 through 1946. “Flagship Detroit” was bought and fully restored by retired American Airlines employees. The plane is flown to events around the country as an ambassador for aviation history. “Flagship Detroit” is the oldest flying DC-3 in the world.
