As the traditional end of the summer travel season, the Labor Day holiday has become one of the busiest days for air travel. St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) is expecting thousands of passengers to arrive, depart, or connect here over the long weekend. From January 1, 2018 to July 31, 2018, STL has served more than 9 million passengers, a 5.9 percent increase from the same time period in 2017. STL has continued to strengthen passenger numbers, as the end of July marks 35 consecutive months of passenger growth. More growth is expected this fall, when Sun Country, the newest airline at STL, begins nonstop service to Fort Meyers, FL (RSW) October 3, 2018 and Tampa, FL (TPA) November 1, 2018. Frontier announced new service to Palm Beach, FL (PBI) beginning November 2018, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ) beginning January 2019. Southwest announced this week they will begin service to Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) and PUJ in March 2019.
