United States Marine Corps Sergeant Major (retired) John Canley received a hero’s welcome at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) on Friday, October 12, 2018. Sgt. Maj. Canley was on his way to Washington, D.C., where he will receive the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during the Vietnam War. The ceremony at the White House, set for Wednesday, October 17, will make him the 300th Marine and 74th living recipient of our nation’s highest award for valor in combat. American Airlines flew Sgt. Maj. Canley in first class, placed flyers recognizing his service and the upcoming ceremony on all seats on the aircraft, and made a special pre-flight announcement aboard the aircraft. To all members of the United States Armed Forces - thank you for your service.
