Holiday Heroes: STL Photo of the Week

It’s always an uplifting and inspirational day when you see a sea of green at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) just days before Christmas. That signals the launch of the annual Fort Leonard Wood Military Block Leave, when soldiers and other military personnel are released from boot camp or other assignments for a two week holiday break. This year, more than 4,000 military personnel were transported to STL early Saturday, December 21. Soldiers stepped off buses and were greeted by a different kind of army - an army of volunteers. The volunteers and several companies and organizations helped continue to make this day special for our service men and women with food, clothes, and other giveaways. The mascots of the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues, Fred Bird and Louie, joined Santa and Ms. Claus for even more fun and cheer for our holiday heroes before they boarded flights to cities across the U.S. and beyond.
