A Southwest Airlines flight prepares to land on Runway 29 at St. Louis Lambert International Airport on Wednesday, July 3, 2019.

Summer not only means peak travel season for travelers, it also means peak construction season for St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL). STL is currently in the midst of a major runway project on Runway 12L-30R. Crews are working to replace the 50 outer feet of each side of that runway while adding electrical improvements for enhanced safety. As one of the primary runways for arrivals and departures, the temporary closure of 12L-30R has reorganized the flight patterns that many are accustomed to. While Runway 12R-30L has remained open, Runway 11-29 has been used to supplement arriving and departing aircraft in place of Runway 12L-30R. During this construction, passengers at STL have been treated to unique views of STL’s airfield while drivers and visitors get the incredible experience of being flown over from Highway 70 and Lambert International Boulevard.
