Wonder Wall: STL Photo of the Week

Posted on July 12, 2019 in Photos

If you were wondering, several million passengers glance at or walk by a 2-story crystallized ceramic tile wall every time they depart or arrive through the C Concourse atrium space in Terminal 1. The wall can also be seen from the 2nd level overlooking the atrium space in the terminal. It’s a classy, high gloss wall, but there’s not much else that captures the eye. Well, now we’re excited to wonder about what comes next. The Airport has issued a national Call to Artists to bring more wonder, more wow, and more “Ahs” to this 400 sq. ft. wall. It’s called the 2020 Legacy Project. The goal is to place a two-dimensional or low relief art work that will slow the feet and widen the eyes of our millions of travelers each year.  An artist will be chosen later this year to create a work that will be installed in late 2020. The art project will be a part of several celebrations in 2020 marking the 100 year anniversary of aviation at this Airport. The Airport’s namesake, Albert Bond Lambert, first leased farmland at this site in 1920 to kick-start commercial aviation in St. Louis.
