Larry Heintz, of AK Systems, a subcontractor for Tech Electronics, tests one of nearly 7,000 alarm devices at the airport. The device he is using activates an aerosol around the fire detector to test if it activates. AK Systems and Pearl Electric test alarms in the airport’s terminals, outer buildings, Lindbergh Tunnel, Airport Office Building and the Air Cargo facility. The devices include smoke detectors, relays that shut down air handling units [AHUs], pull stations at exit doors and 13 fire alarm control panels.
