Inspection means tunnel lane closures for drivers

ST. LOUIS, MO (October 15, 2021): Beginning Monday, October 18, portions of the Lindbergh Tunnel will be closed for a biennial inspection. This inspection, based on a U.S. Department of Transportation requirement, will take place over four days.  From Monday, October 18, and Tuesday, October 19, one lane each day in the northbound portion of the tunnel will be closed. Then starting on Wednesday, October 20, and scheduled to end Thursday, October 21, one southbound lane will be closed each day. If an additional day is needed for any uncompleted or delayed work, Friday, October 22, has been selected as a contingency workday (see the schedule listed below).

The inspection of Missouri’s only vehicular transportation tunnel will be conducted by infrastructure consultant WSP USA Inc. The following components of the tunnel will be inspected: structural, civil, electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety. Some of the items inspected will be walls, ceilings, roadway, lights, fans, and generator.

Each day at 8:30 a.m. safety crews will begin setting up for the lane closures. The required work will take place Monday through Thursday from 9 until 3 p.m. During this time, the tunnel’s digital message boards will relay the current closures to drivers.
