by Nancy Newman Rice

Exhibition Dates: June – December 2015

Location: Post-Security, E Concourse

My influences include architectural drawings, the girders of anticipated buildings and especially the scaffolding that fills those spaces. They are skeletons, place holders, and evidence of geometry that is the armature of experience.

My practice includes layering a compilation of drawings comprised of architectural renderings and geometric constructions. The drawings are used multiple times in a variety of combinations and have been assembled, as if, to mirror random thoughts and produce a sense of continuous spatial reconfiguration, shapes moving imperceptibly as if by the passage of time. The resulting compositions are painted, with meticulous detail, using oil paint on canvas or prepared paper that has been attached to a wooden panel. The resulting paintings are inspired by geometry, memories, dreams, and experience.
