A row of Southwest Airlines planes is parked at the gates of an airport terminal, with their vibrant red, blue, and yellow tail fins creating a striking visual pattern. The terminal bridge and infrastructure are bustling with activity, including ground crew and equipment in motion. Trees with fall-colored leaves frame the background, while a tall building is visible in the distance.

Southwest’s summer schedule also offers the greatest number of outbound seats

ST. LOUIS, MO (October 26, 2023): Southwest Airlines, the largest operating carrier at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL), announced today that beginning June 4 the airline will be providing daily service to Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR). This will have Southwest serving four southern California airports. This will include not only Burbank, but Los Angeles International (LAX), Long Beach (LGB) and San Diego International (SAN). At this same time, Southwest will begin Saturday service to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) and Norfolk International Airport (ORF).

“Burbank being a fourth market into the southern California region is great news for our travelers,” says STL Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “St. Louis Lambert International Airport can now give our passengers more non-stop options into a very popular destination, southern California.”

With 886 Southwest departures scheduled weekly beginning in June, this marks the most outgoing flights by a single airline (Southwest) in one week since June of 2011 (897). The upgrade in airplanes used by Southwest flying into and out of STL allows Southwest to offer the most weekly passenger outbound seats in the airline’s history, topping over 140,000.

On its website, Hollywood Burbank is described as the closest L.A. area airport to the majority of Los Angeles’ most popular tourist destinations and only 12 miles north of the city’s downtown. While Savannah/Hilton Head is located just under ten miles northwest, and as the name implies the airport also serves the trendy Hilton Head Island resort area. Finally, Norfolk International is the major airport serving coastal Virginia and the growing northeast North Carolina region.
