A row of empty rocking chairs awaiting travelers in Terminal 2 of St. Louis Lambert International Airport on Friday, February 8, 2019.

St. Louis Lambert International (STL) saw more than 15.6 million passengers during 2018, the most since 2003. With those numbers it can be hard to imagine an empty seat in the concourses, but that’s exactly what occurred the afternoon of Friday, February 8. A row of STL’s popular rocking chairs in Terminal 2 sat empty after the normal afternoon departure bank, while awaiting the Friday afternoon surge of passengers. These rocking chairs are some of the most popular seats at STL, as many passengers reflect on and document their travels on social media in these chairs. Some are heading home after a few days of business in St. Louis, some might be escaping the St. Louis weather, and some may be meeting friends or family for a weekend getaway. Whatever your reason for traveling, these seats and STL are ready to welcome you to the start of your journey to over 70 non-stop destinations.
