Dreamscapes

Dreamscapes

by Allison Sissom

Exhibition Dates: September 2023 through September 2024

Location: Terminal 1 Light Boxes

For her Dreamscapes series, Allison Sissom uses the process of collage to find novel connections that form new narratives. Sourcing images from second-hand children’s books and nature photography, Sissom weaves intimate moments into impossible dream-like scenes. Delicately cutting out figures, she searches to find the perfect matching natural scene and layers various objects to create movement. While the final product is not exactly known in advance, the act of discovery results in the playful and dream-like images that keep the narratives grounded. By connecting the varying source materials, the meaning changes, creating complex compositions to engage viewers with a visual journey. The mixture of discovery and intuition is what Sissom finds most exciting about creating this work. Her hope is that this excitement is passed on to her viewers as well.
