Creations in Wood

Creations in Wood

by Dennis Krumlinde

Exhibition Dates: Now through July 2025

Location: Pre-Security, Terminal 1, Upper Level Ticketing

To create these bowls, vases, urns, and other decorative items, Dennis Krumlinde chooses a piece of wood, then turns it on a lathe until a bowl, acorn, or other shape comes out of it. Sometimes, he leaves a natural edge, meaning that some of the bark may still be attached. Or there may be a hole in the piece from where the tree has partially rotted or been eaten away by insects or fungi. He lets the wood dictate the outcome.

As a heritage artist, Dennis keeps alive the art of wood turning, one of the many arts that parents used to pass on to their children so they could furnish and decorate their home, keep their home in good repair, clothe their family, or make decorative and useful items for the family.

About the Artist: Dennis Krumlinde

Dennis holds a degree in Industrial Arts, with an emphasis in woods from the University of Northern Iowa. He has a lifelong passion for working with wood. Since retirement, he has had more time to spend on his hobby and has made
large projects, such as canoes. He is a past member of the St. Charles Area Wood Carvers and the St. Peters Wood Carvers. He and his wife – quilter and heritage artist Georganna Krumlinde – heat their home with wood, and sometimes Dennis’ projects come from wood “that was just too interesting to burn.” Failed projects return to the burn pile.

Dennis is a member of Crossroads Arts Council and St. Charles County Arts Council. He has exhibited his work at the Wonders of Wood Show, Framations Gallery in St. Charles, the St. Charles County Fair, and the Spanning the Generations Art Show, among others.
