Passengers
by Evan and Stacey Studio
Exhibition Dates: May – October 2026
Location: A Gates
Airports are full of human connection, yet at the same time they can feel repetitive and impersonal. In these environments, people are often reduced to the simple role of “passenger,” moving through a system designed for efficiency rather than individuality. Passengers explores this sense of sameness and disconnection through the use of repetition, simplified forms, and minimalism to reflect how airports can feel like emotionally distant spaces.
At the same time, airports are full of meaningful and personal moments. They are places where people reunite, say goodbye, feel excitement, have anxiety, or experience loss, all often in very visible and powerful ways. Human interactions in these places bring individuality into otherwise standardized spaces. Passengers highlights these moments of connection by incorporating the viewer through mirrors to reveal the human side of airports.
By showing both the impersonal and personal nature of airports, Passengers mimics how these spaces are more than just a place of transit. In Passengers, this terminal becomes a hub where disconnection and connection exist together, reflecting the complexity of modern life.
About the Artist: Evan and Stacey Studio
Working as an artistic duo since 2017, Evan and Stacey combine their different backgrounds of art and science to create artwork that distills complex personal themes into quiet visuals. They draw from personal experience and investigate the spaces where memory, infrastructure, and landscape intersect, considering the tension between human-engineered systems and the open beauty of the landscapes around them. Evan earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Webster University and his Master of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Stacey earned her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri. In their collaboration, Stacey’s experience as an engineer brought new expertise to enhance the sculptural works and installations Evan was creating. This partnership has shown them the power of a collaborative process and has led to several exhibitions with institutions such as the International Sculpture Center, Museum of Art – DeLand, VAR Gallery in Milwaukee, and the Kranzberg Arts Foundation in St. Louis. They live and work in St. Louis.
