Pysanky Eggs: Before the Flight

Pysanky Eggs: Before the Flight

by Katherine Alexander

Exhibition Dates: December 2021 through June 2022

Location: Pre-security, Upper Level Ticketing Lounge

Pysanky eggs are an ancient Slavic folk art tradition that celebrate the changing seasons and the symbolic potential of an unhatched egg. The thirteen eggs in this collection all take inspiration from the inherent beauty and symmetry found in nature. Some are etched to reveal the gradation of color found naturally in the shells. Others are enhanced with symbolic colors: yellow for wisdom, orange for endurance, green for growth, etc. Each piece is a real egg representing the optimistic energy about to burst open and take flight.
