“Through my artwork, my intention is to invite viewers to look closer and see the sacred in our everyday lives. The purpose of my artwork is to encourage further exploration and contemplation of the strength, fragility and beauty of the natural world and our human relationship within it.”
Field Notes: An Artist’s Perspective is Laura Lebeda’s visual interpretation of various birds in their natural environments. Her work considers themes such as pollination, migration, courtship, beauty and endangerment.
About the Artist: Laura Lebeda
Laura Lebeda is a visual artist and educator living in the St. Louis area. She obtained her MFA from Fontbonne University. She designs and teaches courses at the secondary and university level, while exhibiting in nationally juried art fairs and galleries. She is an award-winning artist whose work is collected both nationally and internationally.
She draws inspiration from what she sees, whether in her backyard, hiking, or traveling. The World Bird Sanctuary, Lone Elk Park, and The Endangered Wolf Center—unique gems in the St. Louis area—are great
resources for her artwork.
Laura’s drawing style is contemporary representationalism. Highly detailed areas juxtaposed with blurred lines suggest motion and create multi-layered imagery where memories and narratives develop. A graphic design background has influenced her work, which emphasizes strong architectural lines and measurements while incorporating text and color swatches as visual elements. This is both for educational purposes and to emulate the look of field guide observations.
